How to Write Wedding Photography Emails {and book the client}

Let’s talk wedding photography business emails.

First off, we know you spend so much effort making yourself findable to potential clients. So you'll likely be excited when you start seeing inquiries in your inbox (and you will!).

But looking back on early in our career, we may have lost potential clients because we just didn’t know how to write a professional email, one that inspires confidence and professionalism for our clients.

So let's talk about some ways to display more confidence in your correspondence.

Too much information in one email will appear 'pitchy' or overwhelm your potential client. You want your email to feel more like a face to face interaction to establish you're not a robot, but still with a confident and professional touch. Make it easy and trustworthy for them to work with you.

There are also words that weaken your statements will make you seem less confident. To illustrate, here’s a watered-down line:

“I think we might be able to [X,Y, Z].”

Using “I think” or “might” would be fine, but both in the same sentence makes you sound unsure.

Read through your email for wishy-washy language like:

  • “Just”

  • “Maybe”

  • “Potentially”

  • “Might”

  • “I think”

  • “I believe”

  • “I’m guessing”

  • “I suspect”

  • “I’m not sure, but …”

  • “I could be wrong, but…”

  • “It’s possible that …”

  • “There’s a chance …”

And this last tip will be controversial….

We found more success by not following up. We believe in the rule of exclusivity and it’s worked well for us. Not following up also helps us to get our ideal clients; people that truly want to work with us.

As long as you've made yourself accessible in your initial email, they know how to contact you again if they want more information.

You might be a brand-new wedding professional or nervous behind your computer screen, but there’s no reason your inquiring clients have to know that. An assertive email will help you capture their interest, build credibility, and down the line, win the contract.
