How To shoot and edit in harsh midday light

Some photographers, especially us that love a light and airy editing style might cringe at the thought of shooting and editing in harsh midday light, but don’t fret! There are some techniques you can employ to make your photos look softer, no matter the time of day!

  1. You can almost always find the angle where your clients back is in the sun, and there face is mostly shaded. So keep turning your client until the light is even on their face.

  2. There are some instances like 12:00pm when the sun is right over head, and turning your client to find the shade doesn’t help much. For these situations, I would pose them with their heads angled downward.

  3. When editing harsh light situations, you’ll need to turn down the highlights (sometimes all the way), turn up the shadows, and turn down the contrast. All of these editing techniques will help soften your photos and keep that light and airy photography style that is so gorgeous and loved by clients.

Happy Shooting!
